Get the Performance Pack, a better cartridge (maybe a Dynavector 10X5 or an Ortofon 2M Blue) and then STOP. Putting $1000 into an RP1 is a waste of money..https://www.blogger.com/profile/11748186834511051661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7900016723615414224.post-79323804593975716392013-09-20T13:50:15.560-05:002013-09-20T13:50:15.560-05:00Appreciate the reply Marc, the $195 performance pa...Appreciate the reply Marc, the $195 performance pack does not include the glass platter:-( "O" Ring, Belt, P7 Wool Mat and Bias unfortunately I'm not a fan of the Rega carts and I have a nice Orto 2M Blue for this table. Guess I should have been a little more up front on what I already have and prefer before asking your take. Since I got the table for free I'm willing to dish out a grand for some upgrades and was just getting your opinion on what I thought would be good options for that grand. My thoughts are Achroplat II, GT Sub-P, Ref. Belt and Strange Attractors for what I'm willing to put into this table? To take a base RP1 and change everything would be putting it into the 3K plus range and you still would not have the arm to platter brace found in the RP3 and above and why I mentioned the Gyro SE, if I were going to spend that kind of cash I'd sure want to go with a much nicer overall table;-) My main rig has a Well Tempered Amadeus in it and I was just not planning on going that expensive again for this budget system here. So IYHO are my choices going to make a big difference for a grand? It also replaces the Ortofon OM-5e cartridge that comes with the RP1 and replaces it with the Rega Bias. This pack usually costs less than $200 and yields big results. Going with a Groovetracer subplatter would definitely take it up a notch. The problem is that you mention a bunch of options that would all result in big improvements. At this point it just depends what your budget is. If buying a Gyro SE is an option, by all means get THAT. The difference in performance between an RP1 and a Gyro SE is huge..https://www.blogger.com/profile/11748186834511051661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7900016723615414224.post-27092814379196656852013-09-18T13:41:10.240-05:002013-09-18T13:41:10.240-05:00Nice reply/response to Joe Marc. I have been given a base model RP1, this is going into a secondary system in my music room or my live venue system which is tubes and horns. I don't want to spend a fortune on a turntable rig for this system but want to do a reasonable amount of upgrades to the RP1. Obviously the RP1 does not have the upgraded motor therefore the upgrade PSU is out of the question but what do you think about adding a GT sub platter, Achroplat II and Dynavector 10X5? I guess going all out would be upgrading the motor w/PSU and changing out the RB101 to a RB303 as well but for what I would spend for all this I would just sell the RP1 and buy myself a Gyro SE with RB303:-0 Just wondering if spending that grand would make the best sense on an RP1? If we didn't, the turntable industry would shrink dramatically and maybe even disappear. The idea that an old Dual sounds the same as a new Avid would probably be scoffed at by a majority of audiophiles. If you don't hear differences between turntables, don't sweat it...you'll probably save a lot of money! But it's very insulting to suggest that these differences are imagined by others..https://www.blogger.com/profile/11748186834511051661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7900016723615414224.post-13194115946366655512013-04-03T08:56:23.606-05:002013-04-03T08:56:23.606-05:00Jeeze man, I've tried, Lord knows I've tri...Jeeze man, I've tried, Lord knows I've tried and I cannot hear these differences in TTs you speak of. Sometimes I just think your imagination gets the better of you and you hear what you want to hear. Personally I find sonic differences between turntables very difficult to hear (and yes I have listened painstakingly). I do hear subtle differences between mats. Whereas I find differences between cartridges far more noticeable as they swamp out TT differences. Recently I heard a well lubricated Dual 601 with custom mat/clamp and Shure V15 - SAS stylus... then the same cartridge installed on an Avid TT at many times the price and honestly I could not hear a bit of difference. They both sounded excellent.

Joe BigliogoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
